Teens in California now have options when it comes to enrolling in drivers ed school. In the old days, it was pretty much accepted that to get your California drivers license, you would enroll in a driving school after high school every day for about a month. Today, Teens can enroll in a state approved California Drivers Ed program where the classroom portion is taken online. No worries about getting to class every day, no make up days if you are out sick!
This DMV approved California Drivers Ed course is taken online, in the comfort of your own home. It’s self paced, meaning you can login and logout as your schedule permits. Parents can monitor their teens progress with this course. Once the course is completed, and being of at least 15½ years old, you apply for your California learners permit. During this time, for the next six months, you will spend time with your parents after school and on the weekends, learning the driving objectives.
Once you’ve completed the driving objectives with your learners permit (six months) and having reached your 16th birthday, you can apply for your California drivers license. You will receive a certificate of completion for taking this course and present this to your DMV office as proof of having completed a state approved California drivers education course. The final step is to enroll in a local driving school for six hours of instruction with a certified drivers ed instructor. This is usually accomplished in one day, or sometimes in two split days.
